Barry Jones was born in the shadows of the great cathedral in York England, on the 29th day of November in 1946. He took his apprenticeship in the railroad building trade, building rolling stock and locomotives for the York Railway, where he met many old timers from the war who shaped him and made him into an adult. He traveled extensively all around Europe. A special place for him was Ibiza, Spain, where he joined others in a free wheeling lifestyle that he much enjoyed. Another town he loved was Paris by night He came to America on the coat tails of Dick Clark who was producing a movie in London about the Beatles. Barry was a manager of a theater and his best friend was cast as John Lennon for the movie. At the wrap party, Dick was accosted by fans and turned himself into Baz's tall shoulders and a friendship was formed. He told Barry Jones "You are coming to America" and he did.
He was fearless in his passions and brutal in a debate. Baz was quite articulate, well versed and well read. Poet: Charles Bukowski - All poems of Charles Bukowski He studied his letters early and fell in love with books. He, himself, was a very good writer as his virtual family can attest. He was a student of Churchill's works, and Barry loved a great debate on war. He loved the Gothics and was a great fan of Robert Chambers, often challenging the publishers, an attribute he was proud of. Miskatonic University Department of Literature Music was a passion. His mother was a concert pianist and in later years, he picked up the dulcimer and bought himself a set of harps, which he practiced very hard to get the right bend for the blues.. Undoubtedly, his favorite band was the Rolling Stones. He thought Keith Richards a "God" and to this day, has a larger than life poster of Keith placed prominently in his home along with Picasso's "Don Quixote". YouTube - Champagne & Reefer - Rolling Stones & Buddy Guy (HD) (Shine a Light 2008). He had a flair for nice clothing in the day and even a personal tailor. He was known to dress like a proper English gent, with a fedora and cane for walking.
News important to the day intrigued him and he spent countless hours on the Internet, pulling stories and viewpoints, and sometimes quite obscure topics, and we, as his on-line friends were forced to "Google it" and listen to him, but we became more knowledgeable, in spite of ourselves. "Read me now … believe me later" was a favorite coined phrase of his, meant just for us, his friends. He certainly touched everyone's life that he was around, and although he seemed cold and brutal with the truth, he truly was a warm and caring friend who stepped up to the plate, without hesitation, and was there when his friends were in need. Baz was a man of character and was a character himself. He could wear many faces. He laughed easily and was one to INSIST you pay attention to him as he did not suffer fools gladly. He loved fine liquor and fine picric tobaccos, fine herbal remedies and the quiet rituals, from the nice glassware to his Kapp and Petersen pipe. He found comfort in these things towards the end.
He had always loved America and now found himself in Southern California, which suited his lifestyle. He dearly loved South Bay, Redondo Beach. Redondo Beach He was known to walk the stretch of the coast daily, sometimes twice, to his beloved Rat Beach where he would take his Chaucer and read it on the log, wearing his white Tilly hat and toking on his pipe. He left his beloved beach and made a swift move to the high Mojave desert where he fell in love with the terrain, especially Joshua Tree National Park where he spent endless hours trekking about, enjoying the miles of solitude to such a degree that this is where he has chosen to have his ashes spread just past Graham Parsons’ pilgrimage spot on the back side of Cap Rock, as well as in a small cave in the woodlands area of the park. Baz found great comfort and a sense of peace in The Friends of Bill W. chat room, often calling us his “friends". He will be deeply missed by many, as he left quite a foot print on our hearts. Town Square - Friends of BillW We all share memories of the time we had him in our lives, whether it was on-line or real time. And he came to care for all of us as his virtual family. Our memories and feelings about Baz Jones vary widely and are as complex as he was, but these memories and feelings will let him remain in our hearts and minds forever. There was only one Brothelkeeper, and we were fortunate to have him call us his "family". From the stories of England to the tales of Rat beach, from the Bingo Halls to the night clubs he managed, Baz had a way of bringing you on his life’s journey. He allowed us to walk beside him and may we may find great comfort in knowing that we shared the zest and verve of a good man - we knew Barry Jones.

Happy Birthday In Heaven - by Winnie Lovett
"Happy Birthday Baz"
It's sure to be the best one yet,
Though you left us here behind.
Did you think that we'd forget?
Your cake this year, will surely be,
A beauty to behold.
With the icing made of Silver,
And the candles made of Gold.
Yes, your birthday in Heaven,
Will be such a grand affair.
And I know you'll look so lovely,
With a halo in your hair.
The Angels will come from everywhere,
To sing your birthday song.
And I know they'll be so happy,
That you've joined, God's Happy Throng.
No I can't send a card this year,
Or give a gift so fine.
So I'll just send a special prayer,
To that wonderful Father of yours.
Later, dude
We knew you as "Baz." In the few years you were with us we shared remarkably many remarkable moments. Walking on around RAT beach talking about the narcissus and women and the end of the world as we know it. Few people in my life were as impassioned, as erudite, as appreciative. See you later, man.
God Bless You Bro (Sonnet)
He left us too early, far too painfully,
this man who so many loved to hate.
Baz was his own man, his spirit now free,
I pray that he made it to the pearly gate.
Met him twice in Akron, at founders day,
many hours we spent a newfound friend.
The debates were outrageous, just for play,
those that he loved he'd staunchily defend.
I came to love this loud colorful man,
whose opinions most of us shuddered at.
But he would hold out a strong helping hand,
when you were defeated, flat on your back.
I'll miss you Barry, a lot of us will,
with you gone my friend, Bill's loses it's thrill.
My Little Rhyme for U
Friends may come
And friends may go
And friends may peter out, you know.
But we'll be friends
Through thick or thin
Peter out, or peter in :)
(Sorry Bro, it's the best I could come up with)
XOXO
